The last 6 months have been particularly trying for my family. If you didn't know and are reading this for the first time my Grandma Betty died on
Thanksgiving Day. I consider myself pretty lucky to have her for so long even though I thought it was going to be forever. As a kid you think your grandparents will live forever. They are your hope and your dream. They spoil you rotten and send you home to your parents. When mom and dad have told you no - you go to Grandma and Grandpa and get your way. It's simple.
Well, we had another funeral and visitation to go to this week and Drexel's to the age where we do take him. He has learned about life and death with the loss of his great grandma and he doesn't like it...as none of us do. As we were driving back from having chicken dinner last night my beloved 5 year-old says, "I don't want Grandma and Grandpa to go up there." I asked him where, and he replied, "Heaven." Oh boy here's another can of worms I'm not ready to deal with, but I assured him that Grandma and Grandpa would be around for a long time. They've got a lot of work to do here yet.
I think it's cute that he gets how life goes and asks questions. He does talk about Grandma Betty a lot and that he misses her. They were very close. The good news is that he has the ability to having a lot of memories with her.
