Children's Church
Well, Drexel went to church with Tom and I Sunday. Tom's sister Brenda was here and Drexel promised to sit by her at church. Little did I know what that would entail. We discussed him going to Children's Church after the Children's Sermon and well, he wasn't as keen on it as we would have hoped but that's ok. Nothing prepared me for the rest of the service and the fun things he would say at quite the wrong times. At the end of communion Drexel - while sitting on my lap turns to me and says "Rock N Roll, Hootchie Coo" in the sweetest little voice ever. I was mortiphied and couldn't stop laughing either. I was in a total hysterics at the end of the service and could barely utter the words for the benediction response. He was cracking me up. He says - "Sorry I didn't come down there." meaning for children's sermon - pastor says "that's ok. We'll do it again next week." I'm not sure I can hang on for the stressfullness of another Sunday in church with Drexel but later in the day he helped keep the fire going in the back yard. That was pretty nice. As a family unit we really did have a nice time yesterday and I look forward to many more days like this.

When people go to Heaven
"Mommy - I don't want Grandma and Grandpa to go to Heaven."
Wow - how do you respond to that to a sweet little innocent little boy? I hope I did the right thing by telling him that God says that fortunately there is a Heaven that he created for us to have Eternal Life. You can't just say that to a 5 year old and expect him to not ask more question or even for a minute understand what you're trying to tell him. So I assured him that we wer all going to die...someday. Yikes...that didn't go well either. "But Mommy I don't want you to die before me." I said Drexel - as unfortunate as it is, Mommies are supposed to die before their babies, that's how it should work. We all know that this isn't completely true for everyone and very unfortunate for those that don't get the luxury of having their children bury them...Yes I said luxury. I've never buried a child or had a miscarriage but I can only imagine the heartbreak and pain that go along with it. So in Mom's world it's much better to be able to have your children make those decisions for you instead of the other way around.
You see Drexel's Great Grandma Betty died on Thanksgiving Day. The last time he saw her was not 24 hours before her death and they were so close that he couldn't understand why the doctors didn't fix her. They fixed his daddy they should have been able to fix his Grandma Betty. Now every so often he'll come running in the room and say "Mommy - do you know which shoulder Grandma Betty is on today?" He's been taught that she is always with him wherever he goes and whatever he may do, his guardian angel.
What a lucky little boy he is.
